The University Alliance Workshop (UAW) is hosted by Atmosphere and Ocean
Research Institute at The University of Tokyo and the Department of Atmospheric
Sciences at National Taiwan University. It has been held regularly every two
years since 2015. In the spirit of the previous University Alliance Workshop,
which was initiated during the era of Center for Climate System Research at The
University of Tokyo, and was held by the Pan-East Asia countries, the present
UAW was formed to be smaller and more focused.
The workshop
focuses on studies of climate change, climate variabilities, typhoons,
meso-scale convective systems, and convective-water cycling processes. The
recent advances of theories, observations and high-resolution modeling provide
great opportunities for basic research on convection and water cycle and their
interaction with weather and climate. But the complex nature of the relevant
scientific issues and the huge amount of data pose great challenges for
synthesizing all information to make breakthroughs in such studies. We invite
participants in the workshop to share recent research results and to synthesize
outstanding research issues to promote communications and collaborations
jointly.
